Turned right on 3rd in Tulsa
Two blocks before The Church
Masquerader chasing af-
-ter Leon Russell’s sound
Predictably couldn’t catch it
nor ease my seeker’s thirst
Nor find a good reason to
pick back up what I’d put down
I met her near Muskogee
She was working hard, fast, long
Said she was leaving a mean
bad man somewhere back East
Asked might could she ride along
For the makings of a song
I said “Atlanta, Ma’am?”
She smiled and sang back “Peachtrees”
Her refrain not about
which way you ought now go
Her refrain not about
m‘portant people you might say you know
Find yourself a good woman,
carrying a special song
a tweed suitcase, spare blue jeans,
and protect her and love her strong
And you might discover
a darn good reason to
pick back up
your guitar
On the west side of Memphis
I matched my strings to her tune
Magic moments, well they tend
t’leave ‘bout as fast as they come
So just strummed my way through,
as she serenaded Memphis’ moon
Continued composing as
we rolled down highway four-one
Atlanta City Limit,
belting out “Nascent Yield” loud
Her rapt smile contented
voice, agreeably in-key
Ain’t never seen a woman
so sure-footed, so proud
Wed her next mornin’ in Macon
Flowers, Church bells, song complete
Her refrain not about
which way you ought now go
Her refrain not about
m‘portant people you might say ya’ know
Find yourself a good woman,
carrying a special song
a tweed suitcase, spare blue jeans,
and protect her and love her strong
And you might discover
a darn good reason
to pick back up
your gui – tar
